This next poem is a result of an in-class writing exercise. We were reading Chris Vitiello’s “Irresponsibility” and in the appendix in the back were single lines that are just hanging around to have something done with them. We were to choose one and write a poem in ten minutes using the line we chose. Here is mine:
“The rain was falling until it fell” – Then it layed upon the dell
Like a blanket of melted snow – Not in a hurry as where to go
The rain was falling until it fell – From whence it came is hard to tell
But of what geologists say – Lots of dust was soaked that day
The rain was falling until it fell – The sun was shining, I can tell
For wayward beams reflect – refract – Then keep on going but never back
The rain was falling until it fell – But did it stop the ones who sell?
Alas, some did, some did not, yet – As I stayed home I wasn’t wet.
