This was originally in posts but they became too long, so I am changing it to pages. I love poetry, but modern poetry has gotten away from rhyme and meter and just doesn’t seem like real poetry to me any more. I first thought that the modern free-verse form of poetry was lazy…that people didn’t want to bother with the form. But then I tried to write free style poetry and found it is much harder than it looks. But while I do not understand the urge to write things that do not make sense, I can see now that it is still work to write the new form. So, I guess this is my lazy poetry.
I will post poetry I’ve written and give glimpses into the reason some of them were done, like being an assignment, or a reaction to the free style that is also nonsense. We all have read things that make us wonder what the writer is saying; like Virgina Woolf’s book ”To The Lighthouse.” I read it and had to reread every passage several times and I still don’t know what the book is about. It makes me wonder what she was thinking. The Bible says if a speaker says things that is unintelligible to the listener, they are as barbarians to each other, for their understanding is not involved, they are not edified by what the other says and they might as well not be conversing to each other. That is what I feel when I read modernism, post-modernism or realism, or any of the other “isms” that have taken the written word and turned it into gibberish.
There have been poems I have taken off this site because I am preparing a submission for publication and didn’t want them in two places at once. I do not think this is real “publishing” because it can come and go at will (mine) unlike the printed volumes…once they are printed it is hard to “unprint” them. Besides, I do not think any one is reading this stuff, but if you do, pleasepleaseplease send an e-mail to me at: 12_string@chess.com and tell me creatively how much this stuff stinks. You can also e-mail me for the solution to the guitar puzzle elsewhere on my blog, or read here that the answer is: 2 and 7 are the same. I will love any comments at all, as long as I know someone read it. Otherwise I will probably just delete it all and do something more productive, such as count my nose hairs.
The reason I posted the answer to the guitar puzzle here is I think songs are really poems put to music. I hope that explains a lot.
